- What is a
microdot?
- Why should I
bother to use DataDotDNA?
- Does DataDotDNA
really work?
- How are the dots read?
- I've seen lots of
other names; who are these people?
- Where are the
dots made?
- How long do the
dots last?
Our microdots are tiny discs of polyester substrate that are
laser encoded with lines of data. They are normally 1 mm diameter
although we also produce 0.5 mm dots for some applications. We can
supply the dots "dry" but more usually they are supplied ready mixed
in a special PVA adhesive. This adhesive has a special optical
brightener added that makes it glow purple under Ultra Violet light.
In addition we add DataTraceDNA (Digital Nanoparticle
Authentification) to guarantee the authenticity.
While everyone knows it's a good idea to take precautions against
theft mostly it's one of those things we put off until tomorrow..and
as we know tomorrow never comes! The truth is that theft is a fact
of life and, even if we have insurance, the disruption and trauma of
losing a car, the thought of a thief being in your home or having
your business disrupted by loss of a computer or piece of plant is a
nightmare we can all live without. More worrying is the level of
violence criminals are prepared to use nowadays in stealing. Car
jacking is on the increase and wanton destruction of property seems
to be the norm.
DataDotDNA brings peace of mind at a very modest cost.
The answer is yes and the simple reason is that thieves don't
want to risk stealing property that is identifiable. Identifiable
property puts them at risk of detection but more importantly it's
nearly impossible to sell on the stolen parts handlers.
In Australia the National Motor Vehicle Theft Reduction Council
has conducted a study over several years of how microdots have
impacted on car theft and they show that theft reductions of 60 - 90
% have been achieved even on high risk vehicles. In Europe we are
already seeing massive impact on theft rates for cars and boats
equipped with our dots and a Police sponsored project in the UK
where a substantial number of homes had property dotted resulted in
burglary reduction of 50 %.
Thieves may be bad but they aren't stupid!
Dots are read using a simple mini microscope (50 ~ 100 x
magnification) and you can see what they look like from the image on
the left.
We sell our dots in many countries where English is not the first
language so we have adopted a number of brand names suited to the
market in question. Our brand names include Mighty Dot, DNA Program
and Securmark. These are all manufactured by Datadot Technology.
We have factories in Australia, USA, South Africa and United
Kingdom. The dots for Europe are made in the UK factory.
Typically the dots will last around 20 years once applied.
